Crime in London

Despite the fact data from MoneySupermarket recently revealed that postcodes across London dominate the top 20 burglary hotspots in the UK, police forces are failing to make sufficient arrests. Office for National Statistics figures on recorded crime show there were 392,341 burglaries in 2014-15, while Home Office data shows just 54,466 arrests were made.

Thankfully, robberies and burglaries in London are at their lowest since 1973/74, but both gun and knife crime continue to increase. To tackle the problem, London Mayor Sadiq Khan has announced £400,000 funding to help tackle knife crime, while armed police patrols will target London’s gun crime hotspots.

Assistant Commissioner Helen King, Territorial Policing said: “The Met is continuing to work with partners, businesses and the public to reduce the number of offences taking place. Our officers have spent the last year conducting both pro-active operations and preventative work in order to reduce crime, better support victims and build more engagement with communities.”
